Banana Stealing Parrots

A few years ago, we planted two banana trees in our backyard, after all, everyone who lives in tropical Queensland should have banana trees, right?! Finally, this past summer, we noticed we were actually getting bananas growing on one of the trees and we were really excited. I was looking forward to finding out what a real home grown banana would taste like compared to the ones you buy at the supermarket. But over the weekend, I caught a couple of banana stealers. Check out this short video of the little culprits.

A female King Parrot was having a good old munch on a green banana and her brightly coloured mate joined her. Here’s a longer video I took showing them enjoying themselves.

When they left, here’s what I saw of our bananas –

Well, there’s still someĀ bananas left, so maybe we’ll still get to try one!

(Sorry about the unclear pictures, the videos and photos of the parrots were taken from inside the house looking through a back window that had flyscreen).
